Default Never have been recognized

I came home for a few days during Dessert Storm (flight time was maxed out for the month) and took my step-son to a local water park. We were standing in line for one of the slides and the man in front of us was mouthing off about how we didn't belong in a war "to save the oil shieks." And that anyone serving over there was a fool.
My step-son tapped him on the shoulder and said, "This is my Mom and she is home for the week but she has been over there for 2 months. She isn't a fool and I think you owe her an appology."
This guy looked at me and turned back to my son and said, "You're lying. Women don't serve in war zones." And went back to his conversation.
I had to take my step-son away from that line and it spoiled the rest of the day for us.
But that has always been the attitude hasn't it. Either we "don't" serve in the same way the men do or we "shouldn't" serve the same way the men do. I was a C-5 Loadmaster. Fully capable to do the job as any man and sometimes better.
It's our responsibility as former soldiers to inform the uninformed and help the women following behind us gain the recognition they deserve.
Go Girls. You are awsome!

Default Heard that one

I have heard that so many times "You were in the Army" I get so mad but what can you say. I try and educate the idiots but there are times I have to just walk away. I think a sticker would be great, I will look into it soon.

There was a poster at the VA clinic that said "Women are veterans, too". I crossed out the too. What is wrong with stating Women are veterans!. The too feels like an insignificant add on.

Here is a poem for ya all.

A Few For The Red White And Blue

The VA doctor asked me why I joined the military.
I replied simply -- I wanted to serve my country.
She wasted no time in telling me patriotism was something of men;
That she knew there were different motives for women.
I had unfortunately seen quite a bit of his VA bigotry.
I could tell any attempt to convince her would be an excercise in futility.
My face reddened and burned with anger and shame.
I was tired of the way these VA doctors continued to blame
The veterans for their current unhealhy condition.
We are seldom believed despite our fervent explanation.
I was born in a military hospital an destined to return
To the military -- for to serve -- I did truly yearn.
The reasons we chose to serve are personal and true.
We gave our health in support of the red, white, and blue
So Americans' lives and lifestyles could continue.
I just wish it was respected by the VA many instead of the few!

You should have told that stupid VA doctor that medicine was a thing for men, unless.... she trying to find a doctor husband. You have every right to leave people like that feeling like the piece of crap that they are. Don't you feel shame, don't you dare.

Default Teeshirt to sticker-

I saw a t-shirt that said,"The land of the free, because of the brave".

I'm making a large wooden flag with "the land of the free" written above, and "because of the brave" written below.
