The Event

Experts will lead focused sessions on issues of importance to Texas women Veterans from every branch of service, all designed to facilitate successful transition from battlefield to families, workforce, and communities. Sessions will include small group discussion with experts in health and wellness, family resilience, gender-specific medicine, fashion, entering the workforce opportunities, the latest in brain research on post-combat challenges, avenues to access for care, and peer-to-peer model focused on women.

  • Texas State Senator Jane Nelson (author of Women Veterans Month legislation) will lead opening ceremonies.
  • Rebecca Halstead, Brigadier General, USA (ret) will offer the keynote address, "Visionary Leadership-The Rest of the Story," after lunch.
  • The group will enjoy a Saturday evening NBA development league Dallas Legends game versus the Austin Toros at the Dr. Pepper Arena, Frisco. It's an evening dedicated to "Discover Your Grace" in recognition of Veterans hosted by Grace After Fire.

When

Saturday, March 3, 2012. Official session 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. It’s the first weekend of March 2012 Women Veterans Month, as declared by the Texas Legislature. Friday arrival for attendees traveling to Metroplex. If traveling to the Metroplex, Veterans may take advantage of Grace After Fire arrangements with the Sheraton Suites Market Center, Dallas, for a special room rate. Guests are invited to meet each other and the speakers who are attending the event at informal gatherings on Friday, March 2, 2012. Summit begins Saturday morning.

Who

This dynamic, energetic, full-day conference will host 150 Texas women Veterans from all branches of the United States military.

Grace After Fire, a 501(c)(3), Texas-based non-profit organization dedicated to women Veterans. Founded in 2008, Grace After Fire exists to help women Veterans help themselves by offering confidential peer-to-peer outreach and direct access to appropriate health support services as women Veterans reenter their communities and the workforce and refine their roles for a successful future.
