Dr. Kosterman has more than a decade of experience in developing, implementing and coordinating local, state and national programs specific to the prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance abuse and related issues. Dr. Kosterman held three positions in our nation’s capital. As the Director of the National Center for the Advancement of Prevention (NCAP), she led the effort to bridge the gap between substance abuse prevention research and science, and their practical application in the real lives of Americans. NCAP’s work interfaced directly with the US Departments of Health and Human Services, Education and Justice, and the National Institutes on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA). Prior to NCAP, Dr. Kosterman served in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) as a National Policy Advisor and also as a member of the team directing the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. She also helped open the doors of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA). Dr. Kosterman holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Addiction Studies from Seattle University.

Larry Ashley has been involved in the substance abuse and trauma field for over thirty years as a college professor, researcher, and therapist. He is currently Addictions Specialist and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Counselor Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Director of the Problem Gambling Treatment Program, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine. Due to his extensive clinical experience coupled with opportunities for local, national, and international speaking engagements, Professor Ashley is considered to be a leading expert on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and issues related to addictions. He has a special interest on the impact of war on soldiers worldwide. Larry Ashley is currently licensed and certified as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and Certified Problem Gambling Counselor.



Kayla M. Williams Kayla M. Williams, MA

Kayla Williams is a former sergeant and Arabic linguist in a Military Intelligence company of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). During her deployment to Iraq, Williams was at the forefront of troops' interaction with Iraqis while also navigating the challenges of being part of the 15% of the Army that is female. Kayla is the author of Love My Rifle More Than You: Young and Female in the U.S. Army, a memoir about her experiences negotiating the changing demands on today's military. Ms. Williams graduated cum laude with a BA in English Literature from Bowling Green State University, and earned her Masters in International Affairs with a focus on the Middle East from American University. She currently lives near Washington, D.C. with her husband Brian McGough, a fellow veteran.

BG Roma J. Amundson was born April 7, 1950 in Lynch, Nebraska. She graduated from Spencer High School, Spencer, Nebraska in 1968. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education with Distinction from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 1972, and prior to receiving her Master of Education from the University of Nebraska in 1976, attended the Goethe Institute for Language Study in Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany.



BG Amundson enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in April, 1978 and transferred to the Nebraska Army National Guard in January, 1979. She was assigned to Co A, 67th Support Battalion during her attendance at Officer Candidate School at Camp Ashland, Ashland, Nebraska. She was commissioned a 2LT on May 30, 1980. She has served in the following assignments: Communications Platoon Leader, 67th Infantry Brigade; Commander, 67th Signal Detachment; Assistant C-E Officer, 67th Infantry Brigade; XO, Co A, 135th Signal Battalion; Selective Service Area Officer, Nebraska Selective Service System; Detachment Commander and Assistant State Director, Nebraska Selective Service System; Director of Information Management, NE STARC; Defense Movement Coordinator, NE STARC; Commander, 2BN, 209th RTI, Camp Ashland, Nebraska; Director of Facilities and Engineering, NE STARC; Director of Maintenance, NE STARC; Director of Logistics, NE STARC/J8, Joint Force Headquarters, NENG; Commander, 92nd Troop Command; and Director of Doctrine, Training, and Force Development/J7, Joint Force Headquarters, NENG. BG Amundson is currently assigned as Assistant Adjutant General/Army for the Nebraska Army National Guard.


BG Amundson's military education includes the Signal Officer Basic Course, Signal Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course, Signal Pre-Command Course, the U.S. Army War College, and the Combat Service Support Pre-Command Course, National Security Studies Course, and Advanced Joint Professional Military Education.


BG Amundson's awards include: Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with silver hour glass, the Army Service Ribbon, the Selective Service Meritorious Service Medal, the Nebraska National Guard Individual Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Nebraska National Emergency Service Medal, and the Nebraska National Guard 30 year Service Medal.


BG Amundson and her husband Randy have two grown children, Justin and Dawn. The Amundson family lives near Lincoln, Nebraska.

Suzanne Kaufman-McNamara retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 2001. She is employed as an associate attorney with the Berry Law Firm P.C. in Lincoln, Nebraska. Suzanne graduated from Excelsior College, cum laude (B.Sci. 2000) and from Creighton University School of Law (J.D. 2005) with a concentration in Dispute Resolution. She was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2005, and is currently admitted to practice in Colorado and Nebraska. Suzanne is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska, the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and she is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs to represent claimants for VA benefits. Suzanne practices primarily in the area of veterans' disability benefits claims and her past areas of practice include family law, bankruptcy, and employment law. She is a member of the Colorado and Nebraska Bar Associations, the American Bar Association, and has been a Sustaining member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates since 2009.

Amy Lindberg of Lindberg LLC, based in Dallas, Texas, works as a health promotion and readiness consultant to a variety of Department of Defense agencies. Since 1983, she has served as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the United States Navy and has created numerous programs that deliver health care and preventive health education services to a variety of populations in military and civilian sectors.


In her early active duty career, she served as a Clinical Dietitian and Food Service Director for Navy Hospitals Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point. She built and ran a civilian business, Diet by Design, which provided dietetic consulting, Public Health Education/Promotion, Food Service Facility Sanitation Inspection and Menu Planning services. She completed two Masters' Degrees (Human Resources Management and Public Administration with emphasis in Health Care Administration) and qualified as Navy Health Care Administrator. The combination of her education, experience, and entrepreneurial spirit positioned Amy for the second phase of her career in Program Management with specific emphasis in military mobilization and readiness programs. Active duty and Reserve assignments in this area include: Customer Service Consultant to Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command; Force Operations Mobilization Officer, Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command; Force Health Protection and Readiness Project Officer, Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command; and Health Services Support Project Officer, Marine Forces Reserve.


Amy lives in Northern Virginia with her husband of 25 years (a retired Marine Colonel) and her teenage daughter (nationally recognized soccer player). Her son (a Marine Lance Corporal), will move to Quantico, Virginia to attend The Basic School, following college graduation this summer. The daughter of a Marine fighter pilot (WWII and Korea), Amy maintains deep and personal connection to Corps, its' values, and those of its' sister services.
